MISSION & VISION

MISSION

We provide school supplies, uniforms, tutors to Girls age 5 & up that are from disadvantaged background. We support programs that include mentorship, and mini workshops so these girls are fully equipped and ready for college and beyond.

VISION

Shaping the future by nurturing, developing and educating young women to become empowered and successful leaders in their community

OUR STORY

Path for Her started because founder Feven Getachew saw a distinct lack of support in Ethiopia for girls trying to complete their education. Feven knew there was a passion for schooling and a thriving school system already in place. Unfortunately, she also knew there was a gap that prevented many girls from going to school.

In discussion with educational professionals in Ethiopia, Feven was able to get a clear understanding of what was keeping girls from school. The young women had the drive and the capabilities to flourish in secondary school. But when they didn’t have supplies or uniforms, they would start missing class, fall behind on work, and ultimately fail their grade.

And that’s where Feven started.

She began buying books, pencils, and paper for young women. Then she started purchasing school uniforms and connecting girls with tutors and mentors. It was a passion project she took upon herself to financially support. But Feven soon saw how a little effort on her part gave the girls the foundation they needed to thrive.

After personally supporting Path for Her, Feven realized that other’s shared her passion and wanted to be part of the educational story of young women in Ethiopia.

By turning Path for Her into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, more girls will get the school supplies they need so they can focus on their education and not worry about finances. They’ll get tutors to help with difficult subjects, mentors to look up to, and workshops to introduce them to new and exciting career opportunities.

Path for Her started as a personal mission, but now it’s a flourishing program dedicated to giving girls a choice for how to live their lives, instead of having a life chosen for them.

OUR GOALS

Path for Her envisions a world where all women, no matter their financial or economic status, will have access to education they need to live more fulfilling lives.

Our goal is to nurture girls in Ethiopia by helping them learn and develop their own unique skills. Through this development, we hope to see these girls become empowered, productive young women with mindsets that will help introduce them to a life beyond what they’ve known.

We want to increase the success girls have in their educational journeys by giving them access to the materials they need to stay in school, keeping them from becoming invisible to society. We want to provide an educational support system for them so they can live full lives of their choosing. Our goal is to connect them with safe places to explore, learn, and grow.

Through our work with educational leaders in Ethiopia, we will constantly be looking for ways to be better involved in the lives of girls throughout the country, from elementary school through university.

As Path for Her continues to grow, we want to see how education has changed lives. We want to track those changes in schools, communities, and workplaces. Most importantly, we want to see how helping girls get an education has transformed the mindset of our students and their parents.

We hope to create a system that can be used throughout Ethiopia to get more girls in school and help keep them there.

And at the forefront of all we do is helping young women become independent, strong, empowered citizens that will give back to their country, communities, and families.

WHAT WE DO

IMPROVING LIVES AND BETTERING THE WORLD.

We partner with schools in Ethiopia that have majority female attendance to encourage these schools to nurture, support and educate more girls.

An education will give a young girl more than survival – it gives her the chance to thrive! Help us give these girls the opportunity to create their own livelihoods, defend their rights, and pull their entire families and communities out of poverty.

History has proven time and time again that an educated girl can change the world!

REDIET

According to The World Bank, of the 80 million people living in Ethiopia, 44% live below the poverty line. Most of the impoverished live in rural areas where farming is their main occupation and means of survival. Poverty, coupled with the need for children to work at home, keeps kids out of school and has contributed to a mere 39% literacy rate among adults in Ethiopia (only 20% among females).  Statistics provided by UNESCO Institute for Statistics.

Although the Ethiopian government has increased efforts to in advocate gender equality in education, the negative social attitudes against women, and educating them in particular, is still being reflected in schools and society as a whole.
